LARRY ALVIS NAMED ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH

Larry Alvis has been named Assistant Softball Coach at UMBC, it was announced today by Head Coach Joe French.Alvis, a 1979 graduate of UMBC with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, most recently served as the Head Softball Coach at Anne Arundel Community College. He led the team to a 20-9 record, which allowed them to finish at the number two ranking in the NJCAA. "I am very excited about Larry joining the program. He should be an excellent coach and recruiter. His experience in ASA softball and at Anne Arundel will be a huge asset in our own recruiting," said French.Previously, Alvis was the Head Coach of the Chesapeake Chargers, the area's 18 & Under Junior Olympic Team. During his stay, he led the Chargers to 12 State and 4 Regional Championships, as well as 6 National Tournaments. In addition, Alvis was instrumental in the development of over 40 players, helping them to become regional All-Americans, Olympic Trial Qualifiers, or college and high school coaches.
