2008: Named to the America East All-Rookie Team after going 14-13 with a team-best 2.60 ERA and a UMBC freshman-record 141 strikeouts in 164.0 innings… Made 34 appearances in the circle, including 23 starts… Pitched 12 complete games and two shutouts… Ranked second in the America East in appearances, third in innings pitched and strikeouts, fifth in wins, sixth in opponent batting average (.231) and seventh in ERA and starts… Her 14 wins are tied for the 10th-most ever by a Retriever in a single season and are the fourth-most by a Retriever freshman, while her 34 appearances rank second all-time, her 141 strikeouts rank third, her 164.0 innings rank sixth and her 23 starts are tied for ninth… In addition, her 2.60 ERA is ninth-best ever by a Retriever freshman and her 34 appearances set a freshman record, while her 23 starts and 164.0 innings rank third among all-time UMBC rookies… Named America East Rookie of the Week on March 17 after going 2-2 with a 2.47 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work, holding opponents to a .210 batting average… Named to the UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team (March 20-22) after going 2-2 with a 3.05 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 20.2 innings, holding opponents to a .220 batting average… Picked up her first career win after pitching three scoreless one-hit innings in relief against James Madison (Feb. 17)… Pitched back-to-back complete games against George Washington and Howard (March 4-12) but suffered the loss in both… Struck out eight Bison batters… Struck out seven batters in 4.1 scoreless innings of relief work to earn the victory against St. Francis (March 20)… Picked up a complete game victory against Mount St. Mary’s (March 21), striking out seven batters… Struck out eight batters in back-to-back games against Bucknell and Hartford (March 26-30)… Allowed just one run and four hits in 6.1 innings of work in the win over the Bison, then pitched her first shutout, a one-hitter against the Hawks… Gave up one run on three hits while striking out seven in a complete game victory over Binghamton (April 9)… Allowed just two earned runs in 15.1 innings of work in three appearances against Stony Brook (April 12-13)… Gave up two runs in a complete-game loss in the second game of the doubleheader, then returned the next day to pitch a two-hitter, allowing just one unearned run while striking out five… Struggled in her next outing, allowing seven runs in 5.2 innings against Boston U., but struck out a career-high nine batters (April 19)… Struck out eight batters in back-to-back games against Binghamton (April 23) and Vermont (April 26)… Allowed just one earned run in 13.0 innings in those two games, including a three-hit shutout against the Bearcats…  Picked up back-to-back complete-game victories against Delaware (April 30) and Maine (May 3) with 10 strikeouts… Recognized on the America East Honor Roll.

 

Background: A four-time All-County selection by the Maryland Gazette and a three-time All-Metro pick by the Baltimore Sun, including First Team in 2006, when she went 12-3 with a 0.82 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 102 innings… Named team MVP all four years of high school… Led the Cavaliers to two straight IAAM titles… Pitched a shutout in the 2006 conference semifinals and a four-hitter in the championship game… Selected to play in the 2007 Old Line Classic All-Star Game… Led her travel ball team to fifth place at nationals three years in a row… A member of the National Honor Society and the principal’s honor roll… Daughter of Charlene and Steve Weigman… Born June 26, 1989… A pre-physical therapy major.
