Bill Gilbert enters his second season as pitching coach and catching instructor at UMBC.

Gilbert has served as a pitching coach for more than eight years, as he has coached on the collegiate level since 1994, with stops at Bellevue Junior College (1994-96, 1997-98), Catawba College (1998-99), UNC-Pembroke (2000-02) and Monmouth University (2004) before joining Joe French's staff at UMBC in 2005.

In 2000, Gilbert coached the Swedish National Team to the Scandanavian Championship.

Gilbert brings an extensive playing and pitching background, both nationally and internationally. An avid fast-pitch player, he regularly took the ball in the circle himself, playing competitively for 11 years.

Gilbert's other main responsibility is fundraising, and he is also in charge of maintaining communication with the strength and conditioning coaches, and he will assist with both on- and off-campus recruiting.

Gilbert received his Bachelor's degree in political science from Purdue University in 1983. He and his wife, Marjorie, and their daughters, Sarah (14) and Carys (11), maintain their permanent home in Harrisburg, N.C.
