Dave Witten enters his third season as first base coach and outfield instructor at UMBC.
White UMBC is his first collegiate coaching position, Witten brings valuable high school and travel ball coaching experience to the Retrievers. He served as the assistant coach at Century High School in Carroll County in 2003 and at Long Reach High School in Howard County in 2004. He also coached ASA travle ball from 1992 until he came to UMBC in 2005.
"Dave has brought a wealth of ASA and high school experience to UMBC," head coach Joe French said. "He knows the area well and has numerous local contacts, which has been a great asset in recruiting in the Mid-Atlantic region and has also aided our clinics. He has helped make us a better ball club over the past two years."
Witten served in the Army from 1977-80, and he played and coached baseball for two years during his military service. He was primarily an outfielder and catcher.
Witten resides in Sykesville, Md., with his wife, Gail. They have two daughters, Amber, 23, and Kristy, 18, a freshman pitcher at Lake City Community College in Florida.
