2008 Notes: Ranks among UMBC’s career leaders in doubles (2nd, 46), runs (5th, 130), extra-base hits (5th, 63), home runs (T-6th, 19), RBI (8th, 103), total bases (8th, 295), at-bats (9th, 583) and stolen bases (T-9th, 40)… Will serve as team co-captain.

 

2007: Started all 50 games, primarily at second base, and ranked second on the team with a .320 batting average, recording a team-best 55 hits in 172 at-bats… Broke UMBC’s single-season record with 19 doubles… Also led the Retrievers with 46 runs and ranked second with 92 total bases and a .535 slugging percentage… Reached base at a 38.3 percent clip, fourth-best on the team… Stole 13 bases in 14 attempts… Led UMBC with 19 multi-hit games… Served as the Retrievers’ leadoff hitter in 40 games and batted second in the other 10… Ranked fourth in the country with 0.38 doubles per game and 39th with 0.92 runs per game… Led the America East in doubles, runs scored and at-bats and ranked among the league leaders in assists (4th, 114), hits (5th), total bases (5th), slugging percentage (10th) and steals (T-9th)… Selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team for the second year in a row… Ranked among UMBC’s all-time single-season leaders in extra-base hits (T-6th, 25) and runs (9th)… Posted two seven-game hitting streaks… Hit .320 (8-for-25) with three doubles, a homer, four RBI and five runs scored during the first (March 13-22)… Hit .462 (12-for-26) with three doubles, two RBI and 11 runs scored during the second (April 8-14)… Recorded four consecutive two-hit games to start the second streak… Recorded three consecutive multi-hit games from March 27-31, including a 3-for-6 performance with two doubles in the first game of the Maine doubleheader (March 31)… Went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the first game of a doubleheader at Georgetown (April 3)… Went 2-for-5 with a double and scored a season-high three runs in the second game of the Albany doubleheader (April 8)… Went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in the first game of the Vermont doubleheader (April 14)… Selected to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

 

2006: Selected to the America East all-conference second team after hitting .338 with 72 hits, 47 RBI, nine doubles, three triples and eight home runs… Amassed 111 total bases for a .521 slugging percentage and reached base at a .384 clip… Ranked second on the team in hits and runs, third in RBI and fourth in total bases… Stole 16 bases in 19 attempts, second-most on the team… Ranked among league leaders in numerous offensive categories including hits (2nd), runs (3rd), total bases (3rd), RBI (4th), home runs (T-8th) and batting average (10th)… Her 72 hits are seventh-most ever by a Retriever in a single season, while her 49 runs rank fourth, her 111 total bases rank eighth, her 47 RBI rank ninth, her 20 extra-base hits are tied for 11th and her eight homers are tied for 12th… Earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team accolades… Put together a team-best 20-game hitting streak, the third longest in school history, from March 19-April 12, hitting .500 (33-for-66) with 26 RBI and 21 runs scored during that stretch… Amassed 19 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games on the season… Named to the UMBC Kickoff Classic All-Tournament Team after hitting .375 (6-for-16) with six runs scored, four RBI, a double, a triple and two steals in five games… Selected to UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team after hitting .625 (10-for-16) with six runs, seven RBI, three doubles, two steals and her first home run of the season in five games… Had an outstanding series against Hartford, going 6-for-10 with five RBI, four runs scored and a grand slam in three games… Went 4-for-7 with four RBI in the Brown double-header.

 

2005: Started all 58 games as a freshman, hitting .318 with 63 hits in 198 at-bats to earn America East all-rookie team honors… Her 63 hits ranked second on the team and her .318 batting average ranked fourth… Became just the third Retriever freshman ever to amass 60 or more hits in her rookie season… Her 63 hits also rank ninth all-time on UMBC’s single-season hits list, and her 198 at-bats ties for eighth-most in a season with teammate Kali Shirk… Posted 35 RBI and scored 35 runs, ranking second on the Retrievers in both categories… Her 12 doubles and 92 total bases were also second on the team… Also knocked one triple and five home runs for a .465 slugging percentage, fourth-best on the squad… Her five home runs are most ever by a shortstop in school history… Was 11-for-14 in stolen base attempts... Totaled 19 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games… Ranked among the conference leaders in most offensive categories, including second in hits and doubles; fifth in runs scored, RBI and total bases; and eighth in steals… Earned America East Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending May 1 after totaling six RBI and six runs scored and hitting .476 (10-for-21) with a .714 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage in six games… Was named to the Third Annual UMBC Softball Spring Classic all-tournament team after going 5-for-14 with six RBI.

 

Background: Was a first-team all-county selection during her final two years at Oakland Mills… Was on Howard County's offensive leaders list as a sophomore, junior and senior… Also lettered in basketball and received all-county first team honors in that sport as a senior… Was a member of the National Honor Society in high school… Daughter of Luther (Skip) and Lori Shepherd… Has a younger brother, Bradley… Born May 17, 1986...
