2008 Notes: Will serve as team co-captain for the second year in a row… Ranks among UMBC’s career leaders in hit-by-pitch (T-1st, 14), stolen base percentage (2nd, .959), steals (3rd, 71), stolen base attempts (3rd, 74), runs (T-7th, 121), on-base percentage (8th, .394), triples (T-8th, 6), hits (9th, 165), walks (9th, 55) and total bases (10th, 255)… Stole a school-record 45 consecutive bases to start her career, spanning two seasons.
2007: Hit .312 with 39 hits in 125 at-bats over 39 games… Made all 39 starts in center field and batted first or second in the order in 34 games… Ranked third on the team with eight doubles and fourth with 28 runs scored… Also hit five home runs and drove in 22 RBI… Collected 64 total bases for a .512 slugging percentage… Was a perfect 13-for-13 on the base paths… Reached base at a 40.3 percent clip, best on the team and ninth in the
2006: Hit .297 with 60 hits and a team-best 57 runs scored in 65 games… Added nine doubles, three triples, two homers and 22 RBI… Stole 41 bases in 44 attempts, leading the team in both categories… Also walked 27 times, third-most on the team and in the league, and posted a .396 on-base percentage… Led the America East in runs scored and stolen bases… Ranked fourth on the team and seventh in the conference in hits… Recorded six sacrifice bunts, most on the team… Selected to the America East All-Academic squad… Ranked second in the nation in stolen bases per game (0.63) and 29th in runs per game (0.88)… Stole 28 consecutive bases on the season before getting caught for the first time in her career on March 24 against Sacred Heart… Put together a 15-game hitting streak, the fifth-longest in UMBC history, from March 10-24, hitting .431 (22-for-51) with 23 runs scored during that stretch… Recorded 13 multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games… Selected to UNC-Wilmington Seahawk Classic All-Tournament team after hitting .353 (6-for-17) with five runs scored and nine steals in six games… Named Co-MVP of the UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament after leading the Retrievers with 10 hits and 11 runs in six games, hitting .476 (10-for-21) with two doubles, two homers, four RBI and five steals… Had an outstanding series against
2005: Started all 58 games as a freshman and led the team with a .333 batting average, recording a team-high 66 hits in 198 at-bats to earn team MVP and America East all-conference second-team and all-rookie team honors… Became just the second Retriever freshman to amass 60 or more hits in her rookie season… Her 66 hits also rank her eighth all-time on UMBC’s single-season hits list and her 198 at-bats ties for eighth-most in a season with teammate Dana Shepherd… Scored a team-best 36 runs… Recorded seven doubles, two triples and a home run and posted 13 RBI… Ranked fourth on the team with 80 total bases… Walked 13 times and ranked second on the squad with a .389 on-base percentage… Was a perfect 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts to lead the Retrievers… Her 17 steals ties the sixth-best single-season total in UMBC history… Totaled 19 multi-hit games… Hit in a team-best 18 consecutive games during the season, the third-best hitting streak in UMBC history… Led the America East with 66 hits (1.14 hits/game) and ranked among the conference leaders in many offensive categories, including fourth in runs scored and stolen bases, seventh in total bases and eighth in batting average… Was named America East Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 17 after hitting .444 with five runs scored and three stolen bases… Also was named to the UMBC Dawg Pound Easter Invitational all-tournament team after going 3-for-7 with a run scored, and to the Third Annual UMBC Softball Spring Classic all-tournament team after going 5-for-15 on the weekend.
Background: Was voted her team's Most Valuable Player and received first-team Suburban One League honors as a catcher during her senior year… Was a second-team All-League selection as a junior… Also lettered in basketball at North Penn and was a member of the National Honor Society… Daughter of Brad and Liz Shirk… Has two older siblings, Blaine and Michelle… Born Nov. 4, 1985… A biological sciences major who hopes to become a physical therapist.
