2007: Had an outstanding season both at the plate and on the mound in her first year at UMBC… Selected to the America East All-Conference second team as a pitcher… Led the Retrievers with a 1.81 ERA, allowing 42 earned runs in 162.2 innings… Recorded a 13-9 record and posted a team-best 135 strikeouts… Allowed just a .198 opponent batting average… Pitched 19 complete games and four shutouts… Led the America East in batting average against and ranked second in ERA, fourth in starts (24), fifth in innings pitched, sixth in strikeouts, wins, appearances (28), runs allowed (53) and earned runs allowed and eighth in hits allowed (115)… Ranks among UMBC’s all-time single-season leaders in strikeouts (3rd), complete games (T-5th), batting average against (6th), starts (T-6th), shutouts (T-6th), innings pitched (7th), ERA (8th) and appearances (T-9th)… Also ranked 69th in the nation in ERA… Hit .291 at the plate with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 49 games, all starts… Ranked second on the team in homers and third in RBI… Also ranked second in on-base percentage (.389), third in runs scored (28), fourth in total bases (73) and slugging percentage (.518) and fifth in hits (41) and doubles (6)… Ranked sixth in the America East in home runs and walks (22)… Posted eight multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games… Named America East Player of the Week on March 26 after hitting .429 (12-for-28) and slugging .821 with three homers, two doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored in nine games, and also posting a 1-1 record on the mound with a 1.11 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19 innings… Named co-MVP of the UMBC Spring Classic after hitting .583 (7-for-12) and slugging 1.250 with four runs scored, two home runs, two doubles, five RBI and 15 total bases, and also posting a 1-0 record with an 0.78 ERA and eight strikeouts in nine innings, including one complete game… Named America East Pitcher of the Week on April 17 after posting a perfect 4-0 record and a microscopic 0.25 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 28.0 innings… Shared America East Pitcher of the Week honors on April 30 after going 2-0 with a 1.58 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 17.1 innings… Recorded a six-game hit streak from March 19-23, hitting .450 (9-for-20) with two homers and five runs scored… The game after the streak was snapped, went 3-for-3 a double, a homer, two runs and a season-high four RBI against Holy Cross (March 25)… Also went 3-for-3 in the second game of the Delaware doubleheader (April 18)… Twice went 3-for-4 in a game, against Niagara (March 23) and in the first game of a doubleheader at Stony Brook (April 28)… Went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, three RBI and two runs scored in the first game of the Vermont doubleheader… Recorded double-digit strikeouts on three different occasions… Pitched 12 scoreless innings against Maine (March 31), retiring 10 straight batters to start the game and 15 in a row later on, but allowed three runs in the 13th inning in the 3-1 extra-inning loss… Struck out 12 batters and allowed just five hits and one walk in the game… Strung together a 24-inning scoreless streak that spanned parts of six games from April 9-18… Posted 11 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and two walks in a complete-game shutout of Vermont (April 14)… Recorded a season-high 14 strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to Hartford (May 5)… Selected to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

At Delaware State (2005-06): Hit .380 with four home runs, 11 doubles, three triples 36 RBI and 43 runs scored in 55 games in 2006… Also posted a 17-8 record with a 3.04 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 149.2 innings for the Hornets and pitched 14 complete games… A 2006 first team all Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selection… Ranked among the MEAC leaders in most hitting and pitching categories as a sophomore… Named to the 2005-06 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team… Batted .300 (15-for-50) with three homers and 11 RBI as a freshman… Also posted a 9-5 record with a 3.12 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 89.2 innings in 2005.

 

Background: Named Baltimore City/County Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun in 2002, her only season at Institute of Notre Dame, after pitching every inning of every game, striking out an area-best 210 batters in 179 innings while only walking 29 and posting a 0.51 ERA with 10 shutouts… Set the IND school single-season records for wins, strikeouts, ERA and shutouts… Also hit .307 and slugged .440 with 16 RBI, four doubles and two home runs that season… A three-time first team all-Metro selection by The Sun and first team all-county selection by The Sun and the Maryland Gazette… Posted a 15-4 record with a 0.62 ERA and 162 strikeouts as a junior at Northeast High School, then followed that up with an 11-3 record, a 0.34 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 100 innings as a senior… Also hit .491 with 16 RBI and 13 runs scored in 2004… Led the Eagles to the Anne Arundel County co-championship and the Class 3A East region semifinals… Selected to play in the Old Line Classic Game, a high school senior all-star game, and hit the first-ever home run – a grand slam – in the eight-year history of the contest and was named MVP… Also lettered in basketball and soccer in high school and was an all-county second team honoree in soccer… Is a painter and is also writing two novels… Daughter of Michael and Donna Gray… Has three sisters, Michele, Erin and Lindsey… Born Nov. 27, 1986… An art education major who hopes to become an art teacher.
