On Underwood: Coming off a very solid junior season, but is looking to improve put up better numbers this season…has a good eye at the plate, but needs to be more aggressive and consistent…a very confident player who plays with a swagger…provides leadership, fire and spirit to the team…will be the starting second baseman barring injury…had an outstanding first 30 games last year but battled nagging injuries that effected her at the end of the season…could be one of the best second basemen in the America East if healthy and consistent...one of the most vocal players on the team.

 

2005: Coming off a knee injury suffered in November 2004, hit .255 with 39 hits, including eight doubles, in 153 at-bats… Started 57 games in her first season at UMBC after transferring from Reedley Junior College in California… Led the team and ranked fourth in the America East with 22 walks… Posted 26 RBI, fourth best on the team, and scored 20 runs… Was 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts… Led the team with six sacrifice bunts and three sac flies.

 

Background: Was a first-team all-conference selection and a second-team all-NorCal and JuCal athlete at Reedley… Was a four-time all-league selection and garnered the Defensive Player of the Year award every year in high school… Led her team to the Central Valley Conference championship… Also lettered in basketball and was on the Dean's List and Honor Roll… Daughter of Dan and Terri Underwood… Has two younger sisters, Baylie and Chelsea… Born June 26, 1984… Majoring in American studies and hopes to become a physical therapist.
