One of French’s key recruits... The hardest throwing pitcher on the staff, as she possesses a lot of power and movement... Will start the season as the “cleanup” batter but will also see time as a starting pitcher, relief pitcher, first baseman, and DH... One of the strongest and hardest workers on the team... Should provide protection in the batting order for Pickeral... Has potential to be one of the best rookies in the America East and a core player for years to come.
Personal- As a senior, she was selected Team MVP, League MVP, First Team All-Area, Second Team All-State, and garnered both the Coaches’ Award and Captain’s Award... In 2003, she pitched a 19-strikeout game, breaking the league record in single-game strikeouts... As a junior, she was Team MVP, First Team All-League, and received the Coaches’ Award... As a sophomore, she was selected First Team All-Area, and received League MVP, Defensive MVP, and Most Inspirational honors... Also lettered in volleyball at Decatur... Considered Texas-El Paso, Seattle University, and Western Washington, but selected UMBC so that she “could play for a competitive team and get an excellent education in the process”... Started playing softball at age 5... Born on June 15, 1985... Daughter of Craig and Jody Claar... Undecided on her major.
