A 20-year veteran coach of the Chesapeake Chargers, the area's 18 & Under ASA team, he has also previously served as the head coach at Anne Arundel Community College, where he led the team to a 20-9 record and a second-place finish in the NJCAA Division III Championships in 2001. Prior to this, he spent five years as the AACC head men's basketball coach, as well as four years as the assistant softball coach. In addition, Alvis has coached numerous ASA teams to state, regional, and national tournaments, and several of his players have advanced to play college softball.
"As a part time coach, Larry does a great job balancing his own business with coaching softball and being part of the Retriever family," said French. "UMBC and its softball program will benefit from the experience and professionalism that Coach Alvis brings."
