Kuhlmeyer Announces 2019 Schedule

First-year head coach Chris Kuhlmeyer announced the 2019 UMBC Softball Schedule on Friday afternoon.

"I'm very excited about the slate of games we have coming up in 2019," said Kuhlmeyer. "The goal of every pre-conference schedule is to give your team as many different looks as possible, and play as many different combinations of lineups as possible, in order to have them ready to face the gauntlet that is the America East Conference.  I know our team is excited about how they trained and performed in the fall, and are looking forward to getting back on the field to compete in February."

The Retrievers kick-off the campaign February 22-24 in Raleigh, NC when they play five games in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Crabtree Invitational hosted by North Carolina State. UMBC faces Georgia Southern and the host Wolfpack on Friday, before facing Murray State and another game against Georgia Southern on Saturday. Tournament play closes with a rematch against NC State at 12:15 on Sunday.

A return to the Tar Heel state is on tap for the second week of the season (March 1-3) as the Retrievers will play in a five game tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington. UMBC will play Lehigh and North Carolina A&T twice, while facing the host Seahawks once.

March 8-9 will offer some local action as UMBC makes the short trip to Washington D.C. for the Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington. The Retrievers will play Canisius and GW on Friday, and Cornell and a rematch with Canisius on Saturday.

The home schedule opens with a midweek contest against Towson on Tuesday, March 12. UMBC then hits the road on Thursday, March 14 for another local tournament, a one day, two game slate at University of Maryland, College Park. The Retrievers will play Rhode Island in the first game and then close the day with a matchup against the host Terrapins. That Saturday, UMBC will return home for a single game against Bryant, before heading back to College Park to face Villanova on Sunday.

The Retrievers then begin a season-long 16 game homestand on Wednesday, March 20 with a doubleheader against local rival Coppin State. UMBC will host Robert Morris and two-time defending America East Champion UAlbany for the UMBC Retriever Classic on March 22-24. The Retrievers will play each team twice, with the games against UAlbany not counting towards conference standings.

On Wednesday, March 27, Maryland Eastern Shore makes the trip across the Bay Bridge for a doubleheader, and America East conference play opens three days later when Binghamton travels to UMBC Softball Stadium for a three game series. After opening April with a doubleheader against Norfolk State on Wednesday, April 3, UMBC closes the homestand that weekend with a three game series America East series against Maine.

The Retrievers then travel to Stony Brook for a midweek conference doubleheader on April 10, before closing out the non-conference schedule by hosting Delaware State for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13, and then traveling to Maryland Eastern Shore the following Tuesday. UMBC will then return to conference play for good with three games at UMass Lowell on April 20-21, and a mid-week single game at home against Stony Brook on Wednesday, April 24.

UMBC then ends the month of April with three games at UAlbany before closing the regular season at home with a series against Hartford, May 4-5. The top six teams in the standings qualify for the America East Tournament, which will be held May 8-11 at a to be determined location.
