Softball Sets Record For Team GPA With 3.45 in Fall

Baltimore, MD – For the second straight year, the UMBC Softball team set the record for team GPA in the softball program's history. Along with doing this, their mark of a 3.45 GPA in the Fall 2017 semester was the highest among all UMBC athletic teams.

"I am proud of the hard work all of our girls put in during the Fall semester not only on the field, but in the classroom" said Coach Heather Gelbard "We strive to exhibit excellence not only on the softball field, but in all areas.  We talk a lot about excellence in our program, and I do not believe that athletic and softball excellence must be at the expense of academic excellence."

"I actually have found that student athletes who are seeking excellence have that drive in all facets of their lives. Our student athletes worked very hard to achieve this feat, and now they can enjoy the benefits of their hard work.  Spring semester will be another challenge, and we'll have added demands with travel and softball being in full swing, but we'll attack it with the same drive for excellence."

The UMBC Softball team begins the season on February 16th at East Carolina.
