Softball's Hall and Holte Earn America East Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC softball picked up a pair of America East Weekly honors, with junior Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) and freshman pitcher Jessica Holte (Ashland, Va./Atlee) each receiving recognition, as announced Tuesday by the league office.

Hall was named the conference's Player of the Week and College Sports Madness' America East Softball Player of the Week after tallying four hits, two of which were doubles, in nine at bats in a 4-0 week for the Retrievers. The junior batted a team-best .444 with a .688 slugging percentage, drawing seven walks on the weekend and batting in four runs.

Holte started her collegiate career out with a 4-0 record in the circle, including a pair of victories at the Phoenix Opening Tournament to earn America East Pitcher of the Week distinctions. The rookie pitcher allowed one run in a complete game victory against Niagara and followed with an eight inning performance that resulted in a 3-2 win versus host Elon. On the weekend, Holte allowed three earned runs in 15.0 innings of work and walked just one batter.

The Retrievers' game on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at George Mason has been cancelled due to weather. UMBC will return to action on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Norfolk State Tournament. The Retrievers will open action at noon against the host Spartans.
