Softball's junior catcher Taylor Hall was selected to one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s (ECAC) two 2014 Division I All-Star teams, as voted upon by the head coaches within the ECAC Division I softball membership.

Softball Drops Heartbreaker to Binghamton, 2-1, in America East Championships
Softball’s freshman third baseman Kaelin Jackson tied the game with an RBI-double in the top of the seventh inning, but Binghamton’s Taylor Chaffee used a walk-off home run to slip past the Retrievers, 2-1, in heartbreaking fashion in an elimination game at the America East Championships on Friday evening at University Field.

Softball Unable to Overcome Rough Fourth Inning Against Stony Brook in America East Championships Opener
Softball's designated player Danielle O’Neill homered for the 11th time this season to enter into the Retrievers’ single-season home run list, but Stony Brook used three of its four blasts as part of a 12-run fourth inning to defeat UMBC, 16-1, in the opening game of the America East Championships on a rainy Thursday afternoon at University Field.

UMBC Softball Returns to the America East Championships; Retrievers take on No. 1 Stony Brook on Thursday
BALTIMORE – UMBC softball is set to make its return to the America East Championships for the first time since 2011 and the sixth time overall when it travels to Stony Brook, N.Y. for the three-day tournament. The fourth-seeded Retrievers open play against the host and top-seeded Seawolves on Thursday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at University Field.

Softball Earns Five Awards at Conference Banquet
UMBC softball makes its return to the America East Championships for the first time since 2011 and on Wednesday was honored with five players receiving postseason recognition at the conference’s award banquet on the campus of Stony Brook University. Junior catcher Taylor Hall and sophomore designated player Danielle O’Neill highlighted the Retrievers’ honors, each receiving a spot on the All-Conference First Team.

Hall Moves Up on Home Run List; Softball Falls to Albany on Senior Day
Softball’s junior catcher Taylor Hall homered for the 14th time this season to move into a tie with Stevie Shore for third on the Retrievers’ single-season home run list in the regular-season finale at UMBC Softball Stadium. The Retrievers hit the ball hard, but Albany came away with the 6-1 victory on Senior Day to take the series sweep.

Softball battles for seeding in the upcoming America East Championships when it closes its regular-season slate in a three-game series against Albany. Softball Clinches America East Championships Appearance with Holte’s No-Hitter Versus Hartford
A no-hitter from UMBC softball’s freshman pitcher Jessica Holte and a grand slam from junior catcher Taylor Hall helped the Retrievers to complete the series sweep of Hartford and clinch their first America East Championship appearance since 2011. The Retrievers defeated the Hawks, 10-0, in five innings in Monday’s series finale at Hartford Softball Field.

Softball picked up a pair of critical America East victories as the Retrievers used a pair of walk-off home runs to sweep a doubleheader against UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon at the UMBC Softball Stadium. UMBC sophomore short stop Bridget O’Malley launched a three-run home run, her second blast of the day, in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Retrievers a 7-5 victory in game two, while junior catcher Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) tallied one of her four RBI on a solo home run that ended game one in six innings with a 10-2 black and gold victory.

UMBC softball dropped its America East opening doubleheader to Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon after stranding a total of 19 runners in a pair of one-run contests at the UMBC Softball Stadium. The Retrievers were unable to hold on to an early advantage in game one, falling, 3-2, and came up short on a comeback in game two in a 2-1 loss.

BALTIMORE – UMBC softball head coach Joe French has announced that due to inclement weather the UMBC Softball Stadium with not be playable for Saturday’s alumni game. Alumni are encouraged to join the team and staff for food and beverages at the research parking lot at 1 p.m. and to watch the No. 8 UMBC men’s soccer team take on Albany at 2:30 p.m.

Joe French Announces Alvis to Rejoin UMBC Softball Coaching Staff
BALTIMORE – UMBC head softball coach Joe French has announced the addition of Larry Alvis to the 2013 coaching staff. Alvis, a 1979 graduate of UMBC, once again makes his return to the Retrievers, having also served on French’s staff from 2002-04.

Softball Announces Fall Events
BALTIMORE – UMBC head softball coach Joe French has set his 2013 fall slate and has announced a clinic, run by the Retriever coaches and players, scheduled for Oct. 13 at the UMBC Softball Stadium. The black and gold’s complex will also play host to the 5th Annual UMBC Scholastic Classic Oct. 26-27.
