CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC softball's freshman center fielder Bridget O'Malley (Brookly, Md./Seton Keough) batted a team-best .571 at the Seahawk Clash and helped the Retrievers to their first victory of the season on Sunday, Feb. 24 against Morehead State en route to earning America East Rookie of the Week honors.
"Bridget had a terrific weekend," head coach Joe French. "It seemed like every time I looked up she was on base. Not only was she a catalyst for a lot of our runs, but also patrolled our outfield throughout the tournament."
O'Malley tallied four hits and drew three walks for a .727 on-base percentage for the weekend. The freshman scored four runs, was 3-3 in stolen bases and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Retrievers return to Maryland for their home-opener on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against Towson. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the UMBC Softball Stadium.
