Brandan McGee led UMBC for the second straight race

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – UMBC junior Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) led the men’s team at the Navy Invitational while classmate Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) was the top finisher for the women in the Salty Dog Invitational, Saturday morning at the U.S.N.A Golf Club.  Overall the Retriever men finished in fifth place while the women’s squad took seventh.

McGee, who paced the Retrievers last week at the Spider Alumni Open, finished 13th overall completing the 8K course in 25:38.11.  Junior Jake Albino (Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and sophomore Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) were not far behind, placing 20th and 21st, respectively, in nearly identical times at the 26:06 mark.  Junior Tom Eldridge (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and freshman Austin Hayslett (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) rounded out the scoring for UMBC.

For the women, Mezebish crossed the line first for the Retrievers, taking 22nd with a 6K time of 23:50.  Freshman Nicole Dawson (Jessup, Md./Hammond) was just 20 seconds behind the junior captain, finishing 38th in a time of 24:10.  Junior Kirsten McGovern (Sykesville, Md./Century), sophomore Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion), and junior Julie Gessler (Ellicott City, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) finished the scoring for the Black and Gold.
