Boimov Finishes Second as Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals as Cross Country Opens 2010 Season

    EMMITSBURG, Md.—Senior Sara Parkinson (Lancashire, England/Loughborough University) won the women’s race, while junior Sam Boimov finished second in the men’s race as the UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2010 seasons at the Mount St. Mary’s 5K Duals Friday. The men’s team finished second with a dual record of 4-1, while the women finished fifth at 2-4.

     

    Parkinson, who finished second in this meet last year, finished in a time of 17:47.47, over 18 seconds faster than second place and 37 seconds faster than last year.

     

    Junior Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) crossed the line second for the Retrievers in 10th overall in a time of 19:51.69. Sophomore Laura Blevins (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) placed 23rd overall, while senior Cortney Crouse (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) and freshman Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) rounded out the scoring five for the Retrievers.

     

    On the men’s side, Boimov, who transferred in the Spring to UMBC, finished in a time of 15:41.09, while freshman Vinny Di Salvo (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) placed ninth overall in 15:58.60.

     

    Senior Chris Bowie (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) crossed the line 12th overall, while freshmen Brandan McGee (Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood) and Nicolas Escobar (Derwood, Md./Magruder) rounded out the scoring five, finishing 17th and 18th overall, respectively.

     

    The Retrievers return to action on Sept. 18 for the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
