Cross Country Completes 2009 Season at NCAA Regional Championships Saturday

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams finished their 2009 seasons at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships Saturday in Princess Anne, Md., with the women’s side finishing 19th and the men’s side placing 20th.
Senior Sara Parkinson (Lancashire, England/Loughborough University) led the Retriever women across the line, finishing 41st overall in a 6K time of 22:46. Fellow senior Suzanne Gabriel (Falls Church, Va./McLean) placed 65th in 23:21 and sophomore Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) crossed the line in 102nd in a time of 24:00. Freshman Megan Arnold (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) and senior Marin Leahy (Tawneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) rounded out the scoring five.
On the men’s side, senior Andrew Madison (Edgewater, Md./South River) placed 71st overall in a 10K time of 34:08.5, while fellow senior Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) finished 87th in 34:24.6. Junior Chris Bowie (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was 102nd and sophomore Roy Jones (New Market, Md./Linganore) and freshman TJ Cowing (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) rounded out the scoring five.
