2009: Scored in all four meets he competed in for the Retrievers… Was the second Retriever across the line at the 2009 America East Championships, finishing 33rd in 27:00.80… Ran a career-best 8K at the Paul Short Invite in 25:52… Placed 100th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in a 10K time of 34:36.10… Named the team’s Unsung Hero at UMBC’s varsity awards ceremony in May.

 

2008: Scored for the Retrievers in three out of the six events he competed in… Ran a season-best 8K time of 26:06.40 in the Princeton Invitational… Best finish was 15th in the Towson Invitational… Placed 32nd in a career-best 5K time of 17:31.14.

 

2007: Scored for the Retrievers in the last four meets of the season in his debut campaign… Was the third Retriever across the line at the America East Championships, where he turned in a time of 27:21.10 for the 8124-meter course, good for 29th place and was also third on the team at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals with a time of 32:52 for the 10K… Ran his best 8K time at the Lehigh Paul Short Run where he turned in a 26:15 to finish third for the Retrievers and scored in the fourth position at the William and Mary Tribe Invitational where he turned in a 26:46 for the 8K for 39thoverall… Started the season off with a 34th place finish at the Mount St. Mary’s Dual 5K’s in 17:34.37.

 

Background: A 12-time letterwinner in the sports of cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field at Bethesda-Chevy Chase H.S. in Bethesda, Md…. A two-time Jesse Owens Athletic Award recipient (2006 and 2007) and the Maryland Class 3A Cross Country state champion in 2006… Finished fifth in the 3200-meter run at the 2007 Indoor State Championships and third in the same event at the 2007 Montgomery County Outdoor Track and Field Championships… Also finished third in the 3200 at the state meet and was part of the second place 4 x 800m relay en route to a third place team finish… A 2004 Junior Olympic National competitor.

 

Personal: One of two children to Donald and Clarissa Bowie… Father, Donald, participated in basketball and track and field teams at the college level… Has a sister, Aleah (18)… Plans to major in political science and would like to work for the government… Born February 1, 1989.
