St. Alban's City, Vt. - UMBC's men's and women's cross country squads both posted eighth-place finishes at the America East Championships, held in cool, blustery conditions at Hard'ack Recreation Area.
Senior Urgy Eado (Rockville, Md.) led the men and placed 27th overall, completing the 8k race in a time of 25:56.90. Classmate Rhys Burgett (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was UMBC's second finisher, crossing in 36th position with a mark of 26:08.72.
Junior Matthew Kane (Sykesville, Md./Century), sophomore Matt Bennett (Dunkirk, Md.) and junior Nathan Nadal (Silver Spring, Md.) rounded out UMBC's scorers. Kane placed 48th (26:41.70), Bennett was 53rd (26:50.71) and Nadal 54th (26:51.08) for UMBC.
UMass Lowell junior Paul Hogan decisively earned medalist honors, completing the trek in 24:09.77. Stony Brook captured the team title, edging UML, 40-43. Albany (87) placed third, followed by host Vermont (131), Maine (148), New Hampshire (149), Binghamton (155), UMBC (198) and Hartford (287).
