Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC men's cross country continues their road to the America East Championships at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. UMBC will be part of the 50 schools in attendance at the meet.
Last Time Out:
Junior Hassan Omar and Austin Hayslett finished one-two to lead the Retrievers to a 12th place finish at the Paul Short Invitational on October 4. UMBC finished with 444 points, just two behind 11th place Columbia. Navy won the event, scoring 95 points.
Last Year at the Princeton Invitational:
Hassan Omar finished in 16th place, to lead the Retrievers at the Invitational. In the process, Omar would break the school record in the 8k race, with a time of 24:21. Andrew Smith and Austin Hayslett (Mt. Airy, Md./Urbana) finished second and third, with times of 24:46 and 24:51 respectively.
About the Invite:
More than 50 schools will be in attendance from all up and down the east coast. The women's race will begin at 11:15 a.m., with the men starting at 12 p.m. Race map and driving information can be found at goprincetontigers.com.
Junior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) earned America East Performer of the Week honors for the week ending September 16. Omar paced the Retrievers at the Navy Invitational, finishing in 11th place overall.
On the Horizon:
The Retrievers will have their chance to repeat as champions at the America East Championships on November 1 in Orono, Maine. The meet on the campus of the University of Maine begins at 10:00 a.m.
