Annapolis, Md. - Junior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) led the UMBC men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Navy Invitational Meet held at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Omar, who placed 11th at this meet in 2013, finished in the same position in 2014, completing the 8k run in a time of 25:06.35.
The first four finishers were Midshipmen, as the hosts won the meet with 17 points. American edged UMBC for second place, as the Eagles amassed 74 points, compared to 85 for the Retrievers. Ten squads and 89 runners saw action in Annapolis.
Senior Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md./Resevoir) was UMBC's second overall finisher, crossing in 18th position (placed 14th) in a time of 25:30.95.
Sophomore Jon Luckin (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and junior Austin Hayslett (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana), who led UMBC's effort two weeks ago at Mount St. Mary's, stayed in UMBC's top five for the second consecutive meet. Luckin was the 22nd finisher, crossing in a time of 25:38.88, while Hayslett was 26th, posting a mark of 25:49.93.
Patrick Duboyce (New Market, Md./Linganore) debuted in the UMBC top five in 2014, just edging senior teammate Matt Rever (Timonium, Md./Dulaney). Duboyce was the 29th finisher (25:57.40), while Rever was just behind at 25:59.09.
The Retrievers' next competition occurs at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Oct. 4.
