Schuler Receives First America East Performer of the Week Award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After winning the America East Pre-Conference Meet at Binghamton last Saturday, UMBC junior Eric Schuler (Columbia, Md./Reservoir) has been named the America East Male Performer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.
The winner of the women's race, Albany's Brittney Lane, was named the Female Performer of the Week.
Schuler paced the field of 81 runners to lead UMBC to the overall team title. Sophomores Redatu Semeon (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) and Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) placed second and fourth, respectively, to help push the Retrievers past their conference rivals.
Schuler's time of 25:33.1 was the second-fastest ever recorded on the 8k course in Binghamton's 13-year Division tenure. The win is Schuler's first career individual victory and marks the second time that he has led the Retrievers across the finish line.
Schuler and the UMBC men's cross country team returns to competition this Saturday in Annapolis, Md. at the Navy Invitational. The race, which will be held at the U.S.N.A Golf Club, is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
