BALTIMORE – The UMBC track and field team’s first home meet since the 2011 America East Championships, this weekend’s Big Dawg Invitational, will be streamed live on UMBCRetrievers.tv. Saturday’s broadcast will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the 4x100m relay race, and will include multiple camera angles and live commentary.
All of the events held at UMBC Stadium will be broadcast live, while the field events that will be conducted near the softball complex will be recorded and added to the broadcast.
After a successful indoor season in which the women’s track and field team placed a team-best second at the America East championships, an elite group of Retrievers traveled to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Florida State Relays this past weekend.
On day one of the meet, freshman Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany) set a new school record in the javelin with a toss of 58.83m (193’00”), snapping the previous mark of 56.03m (183’10.00”) set back in 1999. Rentzsch finished third in the competition in the Sunshine State and qualified for the IC4A meet to be held in May at Princeton.
On the track, sophomore Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) finished sixth in the women’s 200m dash while senior Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) took 11th in the men’s race and moved into the UMBC top-ten with a time of 21.80.
