Jackson and Proctor Sweep America East Track Awards
Trae Proctor set a new personal-best in the 60m hurdles
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – UMBC track and field freshman Mercedes Jackson (Huntington, Md./Huntington) and junior Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) were named female and male America East Track Performer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday. The announcement comes after both recorded personal-best times at the Penn State Relays held on Saturday.
Jackson collects her second weekly award in her rookie campaign after breaking her own school record in the 60m dash. After setting a new school record at her first collegiate meet, the Bison Opener in December, Jackson was able to lower her own mark at Penn State, setting the new standard at 7.50.
In addition, Jackson finds herself third on the school's all-time list for the 200m after running a 24.88 in State College over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Proctor, last year’s America East 60m hurdle champion, set a new personal-best in the event of 8.03 to claim gold in Pennsylvania. With his new time, Proctor now ranks second on UMBC’s all-time list. In addition, Proctor is now qualified for the IC4A meet to be held in Boston in March.
UAlbany swept the field awards this week with Alfonso Sannapieco claiming the men’s honor and Kelsey Hanson earning the women’s award.
The UMBC track and field team continues its indoor schedule this Friday when the Retrievers travel to New York City to take part in the 2012 Gotham Cup.
