Christmas, Parkinson Named to America East Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team

    Senior Michael Christmas

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Seniors Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand/James Hargest College) and Sara Parkinson (Chorley, England/Loughborough University) have been named to the 2011 America East Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year, the conference announced Tuesday.

     

    Christmas took home bronze in the 800-meter dash in a UMBC record time of 1:52.92, qualifying for the IC4A Championships where he broke the school record again in 1:52.78. He was also a part of the men’s distance medley relay that broke the UMBC record and finished second in a time of 9:49.52. The senior is majoring in biochemistry and has a cumulative GPA of 3.78. In addition, he was named to both the 2009 Cross Country and 2010 Outdoor All-Academic Teams.

     

    Parkinson, a 2010 member of the CoSida Academic All-District II Team, crossed the line fifth in the women’s 3,000-meter run in a UMBC record and ECAC-qualifying time of 9:40.12. She was honored on the America East Cross Country All-Academic Team a year ago. The senior is majoring in geography and sport science and has a cumulative GPA of 3.79.
