Gilreath to Compete in Triple Jump at NCAA East Regional Championships Saturday
5/27/2010
BALTIMORE—UMBC men’s track and field senior standout Victor Gilreath (Catonsville, Md.) will travel to Greensboro, N.C. this weekend to compete at the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Regional Championships in the triple jump.
Gilreath broke the UMBC and America East Championship record in the triple jump at the 2010 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 2 with a leap of 15.45m (50’8.25”). He followed that up by earning bronze at the prestigious IC4A Championships on May 16.
This year, the NCAA changed how it qualifies participants for the Regional Championships. Instead of having a set qualifying mark, the competition will include the top 48 student-athletes in each event. For the triple jump, each athlete will attempt three jumps, with the top 16 receiving three more attempts. The 12-best marks will move on to the NCAA Championships, to be held in Eugene, Ore. June 9-12.
The men’s triple jump is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday. Live results will be available here.
