Onto Breaks UMBC Record in the Heptathlon at Golden Flash Gala

    Junior Keith Onto

    KENT, Ohio—Junior Keith Onto (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro/St. Francis (PA)) broke the UMBC record in the heptathlon at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala on Saturday on his way to finishing third with 5,238 points. Onto, who set the previous record of 5,052 points in 2007, qualified for the IC4A Championships in March.

     

    Senior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had a career day, placing fourth in the heptathlon with an IC4A-qualifying score of 5,090. Senior Michael Buccheri (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan/Monmouth) and junior Martin Nevarez (Casa Grande, Ariz./Central Arizona College) placed 12th and 16th, respectively.

     

    The full Retriever track and field teams return to action January 9 for the Gulden Relays in Lewisburg, Pa.
