Kadine Johnson is back with UMBC as a volunteer coach for a second year after an outstanding career at America East rival UAlbany. Johnson will work primarily with the throwers.
This past summer, Johnson returned to her native Jamaica to compete in the Olympic Trials in the hammer throw. She fell just short in her attempt to qualify for the Olympics, however, as her toss of 56.99m (186'11") was less than a meter shy of the event winner's mark. During workouts leading up to the Trials, Johnson set a new personal-best of 58.22m.
The New Rochelle, N.Y. native is the UAlbany record holder in the hammer throw (57.53m; 188'9") as well as the weight throw (18.02m; 59'1"). In addition to assisting the UMBC track and field teams, Johnson is enrolled in graduate school at the University of Baltimore.
