Retriever Men No. 11 in USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Poll

USTFCCCA Poll

NEW ORLEANS – Following a week without competition, the UMBC men's track and field team comes in at No. 11 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Two weeks ago at the America East Championships, senior Dennison Long (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/FIU) led the team to its second consecutive second-place finish as the Retriever staff, led by head coach David Bobb, was named the conference Coaching Staff of the Year.

Long was named the Most Outstanding Male Track Performer for the second year in a row after sweeping the 100m and 200m dash events with conference record times.  The senior sprinter ranks tied for 30th in the NCAA East Region for the 100m dash with his time of 10.36, while he sits tied for 37th in the 200m event (20.86)

UMBC claimed five other individual gold medals, in addition to a top relay prize, captured by the 4x800 relay which broke the school record with a time of 7:34.11.

Senior Andrew Smith (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley), who competed at the NCAA Indoor Championship and anchored the gold medal winning 4x800 team, captured the 800m race at the America East race and ranks 46th in the region with his school record time of 1:49.64.

Senior Trae Proctor (Brandywine, Md./Thomas Stone) is the highest-ranked Retriever in the East region, sitting tied for 11th in the 110m hurdles.  Proctor broke his own school record earlier in the year with his top 2014 time of 13.88 and then went on to defend his gold in the event at the conference meet at Vermont.

In the throws, senior Yao Adantor (Laurel, Md./Reservoir/Morgan St./Maryland) and junior Thor Serafenas (Olney, Md./Good Counsel/Clemson) rank in the top-50 regionally in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.

Top Retriever athletes will travel this weekend to Princeton, N.J. for the 2014 IC4A Championships which will run from Friday, May 16-18.
