Cambridge, Mass. – UMBC sophomore Gaulthier Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) was named to the America East Conference men’s tennis first-team in singles competition in balloting done by the league’s coaches.
Berret also earned second team honors in doubles at the No. 3 position with classmate and countryman Adam Duprat (Bobigny, France). Duprat also earned second team honors at No. 4 singles.
Three other Retrievers earned all-conference recognition in both singles and doubles. Senior Mwali Phiri (Yonkers, N.Y.) and junior Rasid Winklaar (Willemstad, Curacao) were both tabbed to the second team in singles and as a tandem at No. 2 doubles. Phiri was selected at No. 6 singles and Winklaar earned the honor at No. 2 singles.
Junior Joe Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the fifth Retriever to earn America East recognition, as he was selected at No. 3 singles to the second team.
Berret went 14-3 in singles competition this season and captured both of his matches at the America East Championships.
Berret and Duprat now have four all-conference honors in two seasons. Both earned Second Team honors in singles and doubles as freshmen in 2010.
Phiri and Adewumi picked up their second honor each, as the duo earned a citation at First Team No. 3 singles last season.
