Five Retrievers Earn All-Conference Honors in Men's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.UMBC senior Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) and freshmen Adam Duprat (Bobigny, France) and Gaulthier Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) each were named to the Second-Team All-Conference in singles competition in a vote by America East men’s tennis coaches. 

 

Junior Mwali Phiri (Yonkers, N.Y.) and sophomore Joe Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned First Team All-Conference honors at the No. 3 doubles slot.

 

The doubles duo of Duprat and Berret also second team honors at the No. 2 doubles position.

 

Voorman completed a brilliant career at UMBC by earning his sixth conference honor. He compiled a 18-7 record, primarily at No. 2 singles and won the deciding match in the Retrievers’ 4-3 semifinal win over Stony Brook in the conference championships. Voorman won 165 matches in his career.

 

Phiri and Adewumi formed late in the year, but won both matches in postseason competition, defeating teams from Stony Brook and league champion Binghamton.

 

Duprat and Gaulthier earned their singles honors at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively. Duprat compiled a brilliant single record of 18-2, while Berret won 15 of 21 matches.
