Men's Tennis Posts 16th Win in 6-1 Triumph Over Delaware

    BALTIMORE--The UMBC men’s tennis team won its 16th match of the season as they won eight of nine matches in a 6-1 victory over Delaware. UMBC is now 16-5 on the campaign, while Delaware dropped to 9-11.

     

    The Retrievers swept the three doubles matches, sparked by an impressive 8-2 win by seniors Chris Meyer (New Market, Md./Urbana) and Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) over Andre Vorobyov/Austin Longacre at No. 1 doubles.  

     

    The bottom of the lineup was impressive for UMBC, as No. 5 Joe Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Nick Piacente and No. 6 Mwali Phiri (Yonkers, N.Y.) overwhelmed Ryan Kent, 6-3, 6-3.

     

    No. 3 Voorman, and Frenchmen No. 2 Adam Duprat (Bobigny, France) and No. 4 Gaulthier Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) were extended to three sets before prevailing. Berret came back from a one-set deficit to prevail, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

     

    UMBC completes its home and regular season schedules as they welcome George Washington to the UMBC Tennis Complex on Saturday, April 24.
