The UMBC men’s tennis team fought off chilly temperatures and a tough George Mason squad, defeating the Patriots, 6-1, on USTA Kids’ Day at the UMBC Tennis Complex.

The Retrievers won for the eighth time in nine matches and tied their season-long match winning streak at four straight. UMBC is now 13-3 on the campaign.

“The guys were rock solid in their focus today, and, as we say, 'took care of business,'” head coach Rob Hubbard said.  “Their energy level has been strong and hopefully we'll see more of the same against Stony Brook."

UMBC captured the doubles point and took five of six singles matches. Both Retriever French freshmen, Adam Duprat and Gaulthier Berret, did not drop a game en route to victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles respectively.

The Retrievers face a tough challenge on Tuesday, March 30, when conference foe Stony Brook visits at 2:00 p.m.
