Mwali Phiri Named America East Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Cambridge, Mass.--UMBC junior Mwali Phiri (Yonkers, N.Y./Tuckahoe/Tyler JC) was named America East Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 28, 2010.
The Retriever newcomer posted a 5-1 record over the weekend , including a 4-0 mark in conference play in singles and doubles. He recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hartford’s Edgardo Ureta at No. 5 singles and won a key match at U. Conn, capturing a tie-breaker in a 6-4, 4-6, (10-6) victory over Dave Adams at the No. 5 slot. His play helped UMBC to a three-match sweep over the weekend and the Retrievers stand at 8-2 overall as they head to Navy and Old Dominion for matches this weekend.
