Tennis Teams Record 7-0 Wins Over Quinnipiac in First Home Action of 2009 Season
3/11/2009
Baltimore—The UMBC tennis teams opened the 2009 home schedule by both blanking visiting Quinnipiac, 7-0. The women won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, not dropping a set to the Bobcats. Sophomore Ana Mungo (Summit, N.J.) set the pace with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mary Wilson at No. 1 singles and freshman Carmen Jackman (Silver Spring, Md.) also only dropped two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Shawna Sarson at No. 4 singles. The men evened their record at 4-4, rebounding from a tough 4-3 setback at Navy over the weekend. Freshmen Joe Adewumi (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Allen Tsang (Wellesley, Mass.) shook off shaky starts to earn victories. Adewumi defeated James Kwei, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, while Tsang dropped his first set, before recovering to win, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (6) over Charlie Feldman at the No. 5 slot. "Everyone continues to improve from one match to the next,” head coach Rob Hubbard said."Hopefully we can build on this as we head into conference play shortly."
