New Haven, Conn.—Senior Nick Savage-Pollock (Montreal, Que.) and junior Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) took on the best tandems in the east and won three matches to advance to the quarterfinals in the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Men’s Tennis Championships.

The Retriever duo defeated tandems from Navy, 8-5, Columbia, 8-2, and Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-6, before being eliminated in the final eight by the team of Bourchier/Lee from Penn State by a count of 8-5.

Voorman also made a solid run in the singles draw, capturing impressive wins over Ryan Kim of Princeton (6-3, 6-0) and Ryan Gormley of Penn State (6-4, 6-3) before dropping a tough 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 decision to fifth-seed Jeff Dawson of Yale.

“Fredi played a great tournament,” head coach Keith Puryear said. “He could have gone away after being down a set and two breaks of serve in the second set. Instead he fought back to even things up and win in a tie-break. I was very proud of the way he fought.”

Savage-Pollock earned a first-round single win over St. John’s qualifier Gustavo Loza (6-1, 4-6, 6-1), before dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision to sixth-seed’s Eddie Bourchier of Penn State.
