TENNIS TEAMS BOTH ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS OF AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT

    The UMBC tennis teams both won their quarter-final matches at the America East Championships in New Haven, Connecticut. The third-seeded men defeated sixth-seeded Hartford, 4-0, while the third-seeded women blanked sixth-seeded New Hampshire, 4-0.

     

    Both teams will advance to Saturday’s semi-finals, where they will both take on second-seeded Binghamton. The men will face the Bearcats at 11:00 a.m., while the women face Binghamton at 2:00 p.m.

     

    On the men’s side, the lower three seeds cruised to victory, losing a combined total of three games, while the #2 and #3 doubles teams earned the doubles point for UMBC. #5 seed Fernando Ferreira blanked his foe, Brian Reilly, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Adriana Fonseca, sophomore Pascaline Cette and freshman Cornelia Carapcea each won singles matches and were part of doubles teams that helped the Retrievers earn the doubles point.

     

    Both teams dropped 5-2 decisions to Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y. on April 8.
