Combined with Mehrban Iranshad  to win the Men’s “D” Doubles flight with a 9-8 (4) win over James/Jones of Navy at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational in Newport News, Virginia…also performed well in “D” Singles, winning a pair of matches, before falling to Kyle Jones, of Navy, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarter-finals.

 

2004-05: Excelled in doubles last season, posting a record of 11-7 overall and 9-4 in the spring…won an America East quarter-final doubles match vs. UNH.

 

2004: Posted a record of 7-9 at #4 and #5 singles last season...has become more consistent from the baseline and is an improving doubles player as well.

2003: Came to UMBC mid-year and was inserted into the starting lineup...played at #4, #5 and #6 singles positions and captured his match in NEC Championship match over FDU...earned All League honors at #6 singles.

Background: A former top 30 player in the Brazilian 18-and-under division...he was a five-time national semi-finalist in doubles...he captured a national title at the 2001 Kioren Cup...possesses a big serve and big forehand...also participated in basketball and track & field...a lover of music, who is an accomplished guitar player and drummer...speaks three languages...has patterened his game after Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten and Andre Agassi...also considered schools such as New Mexico State, DePaul and Old Dominion...majoring in Economics...son of Elizonia Gusmao and Joao Frederico...born November 21, 1983.
