Men's Tennis Departs Texas After Setback to UT-Arlington

Arlington, Texas – The UMBC men's tennis team concluded its spring break trip in Texas, falling to the host UT-Arlington Mavericks, 4-0, in an abbreviated match at the UTA Tennis Center on March 17.

The Retrievers departed Texas an evening ahead of schedule, so the entire team could attend funeral services for volunteer assistant coach and UMBC alum Sol Schwartz, '92.

The Mavs captured the doubles point, taking the Nos. 2 and 3 matches.

Seniors Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md.) and Eliott Loubatie (Paris, France) were both leading in their matches when they were halted. Carter took his first set, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, while Loubatie also won his first set by a 6-3 count.

UT-Arlington won matches at Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles to earn the victory.

The Retrievers return to Baltimore and open a four-match homestand versus rival Stony Brook on March 25 (1:00 p.m.).
