Cambridge, Mass. – UMBC sophomore Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md./National Connections Academy) was named America East Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Year, in a vote by the league's coaches.
The local product also earned America East First Team honors in singles and tabbed Second Team accolades with classmate Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) in doubles competition.
Svard and sophomore Alex Drean (Bayonne, France) also earned Second Team honors in singles.
Carter becomes just the second Retriever to receive the award, as David Jackson earned the honor when UMBC captured the championship in 2007. He posted an overall singles record of 13-5 from the No. 1 position with two of those losses coming against ranked singles opponents and was the league's co-Player of the Week on March 25.
Carter now has four conference honors as he was named to the First Team in singles and doubles in 2013
Svard led the team with 14 singles victories and was a two-time (March 11, April 15) America East Player of the Week in 2014.
Drean posted seven victories at No. 3 singles, including a straight-set triumph in the narrow 4-3 semifinal setback to Stony Brook in the conference semifinals.
