Justin Carter Earns UMBC's Third AE Player of the Week Award of the Spring

Cambridge, Mass. – Sophomore Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md./National Connections Academy) became the third UMBC men's tennis player to earn America East Conference Player of the Week honors in the 2014 season.

Carter shared the men's award with Stony Brook's Jose Morales.

Carter went 2-0 at the top singles spot last week, highlighted by a victory over No. 54 George Washington's Nikita Fomin 3-6, 7-6(5),10-8 at the UMBC Tennis Complex on March 23. After dropping the first set, Carter won a second set tie-breaker and rallied from an 8-7 deficit in the super tie-breaker to earn the victory.

A 2013 America East First Team singles and doubles honoree, Carter also defeated the 2013 Big Sky Champion Sacramento State, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles slot in UMBC's final spring break contest on March 20.

He is currently 7-5 on the year at the No. 1 singles spot and 5-4 at the top-tandem position in doubles.

Carter won three Player of the Week honors as a freshman in 2013. He joins Eliott Loubatie (Paris, France) and Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) as the Retrievers' award-winners this spring.
