Norfolk, Va. – The UMBC men's tennis and host Old Dominion split six singles matches, but the Monarchs captured the doubles point and squeezed out a 4-3 victory over the Retrievers at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

Old Dominion improved to 5-1 on the season, while the narrow loss dropped UMBC to 2-2.

ODU took the No. 2 double match to open the proceedings, but UMBC's No. 1 tandem of sophomores Justin Carter (Randallstown, Md./National Connections Acad.) and Melker Svard (Gothenburg, Sweden) continued their outstanding play with a 6-4 victory. UMBC junior Kamal Patel (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and sophomore Eliott Loubatie (Paris, France) battled the Monarch No. 3 duo, but came up just short, 6-4.
