The UMBC men's and women's tennis teams will host Alumni Weekend at the UMBC Tennis Complex on Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7.
The women will play three matches, hosting conference rivals Stony Brook and Albany and capping play vs. Morgan State. The Seawolves visit on Friday at 2:00 p.m, and the Retrievers play a twin-bill on Saturday, hosting Albany at 10:00 a.m. and Morgan State at 2:00 p.m.
After the two previous matches for the men between Georgetown and Temple were postponed last week, the team welcomes the Stony Brook Seawolves and Morgan State Bears in home matches on Friday and Saturday. Friday's match is slated to get underway at 1:00 p.m., while the Retrievers and Bears get started at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Scouting the Retrievers
The men's tennis team (7-7) is well-rested this week due to the two postponed matches. The Retrievers look forward to face the Seawolves (3-7) and Bears (1-6) on Friday afternoon. The Retrievers are coming off two consecutive wins after defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi andTexas-Pan American in Texas in late March.
The women (10-7) are looking to bounce back after a 5-2 loss against Temple last Saturday.
Sophomore Josefin Stange-Jonsson who was previously named America East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week is coming off a three-match winning streak against Temple, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, and Texas-Pan American.
Scouting the Seawolves
Senior Max Sztabholz won 8-6 to achieve a victory over Lehigh to snap their six-match winning streak. Sztabholz has a record of 6-6 for singles and 4-6 for doubles for his 2012 season.
Nikita Fomin and Francis Bertrand both combined 8-6 at No. 1 doubles against Lehigh.
The Lady Seawolves (5-4) won four out of there five single matches against Fairfield to secure the victory 5-2.
Junior Nini Lagvilava was named America East Player of the week. She won both matches against Fairfield in a 5-2 victory.
Scouting the Great Danes
Albany split its matches last weekend with a win over Bryant (5-2) and a loss to Boston University (7-0). The Great Danes have lost five of six and will face Delaware State on Friday before heading to UMBC.
Scouting the Bears
The Lady Bears (3-9) are on a three-game losing streak heading into Saturday's match with the Retrievers.
Morgan State men's tennis (4-7) recently beat North Carolina Central University to halt their two-match losing streak.
