Adewumi captured singles flight No. 2. He opened play on Saturday with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Penn's Dmitry Bury, then turned around and rallied to outlast Delaware's Andrew Vorobyov, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-7. On Sunday morning, the America East All-Academic team member again dropped the first set, but recovered to nip Kacpar Rams of Temple, 2-6, 6-0, 11-9.
Adewumi took the flight with an ensuing 6-3, 6-4 victory over Delaware's Chris Hincker.
Phiri had a first-round bye and would edge Delaware's Jeff Marshall, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-8 in the Flight 3 quarterfinals on Saturday. On Sunday morning, Phiri won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, over St. Joseph's Dan Barrus. He took the title with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Delaware's Ryan Kent.
The duo of Adewumi and Phiri teamed up in at No. 1 singles and won two matches before falling, 8-4, in the semi-finals to eventual champions Turudic/Katz of Penn.
Sophomores Adam Duprat (Bobigny, France) and Gaulthier Berret (Lagny Sur Marne, France) and senior Shane Yap (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) suffered first-round setbacks in the first, second and fourth flights respectively.
The team will compete in the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. on Oct. 8-10.
