BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs have been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America as 2011 Scholar All-America Teams, CSCAA announced last week. In addition, seniors Keilan Freeman and Brad Reitz have been named to the 2010-11 Scholar All-America Division I Honorable Mention list.

Both the men’s and women’s teams captured America East Championships in 2011 and were recognized for having combined 3.00 GPAs or higher during the 2010-11 school year. The women finished the year with a 3.23 GPA, while the men completed the campaign with a 3.09 GPA.

Freeman and Reitz were named to the individual list for achieving NCAA “B” cut times, while earning a 3.5 or better GPA during the school year.

Reitz captured gold in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley in times of 1:47.26 and 1:48.54 at the conference championships. Both Freeman, a 2010-11 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection, and Reitz were part of the gold medal-winning 800-yard freestyle relay and second place 200-yard medley relay that broke UMBC records in 6:34.28 and 1:29.81, respectively.
