Sporlein and Green Earn Second Straight CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week Honors

Charlotte, N.C.-- Sophomore Gregor Sporlein (Bamberg, Germany/Clavius Gymnasium) and senior Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) earned their second straight CCSA (Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association) Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors. The tandem led the Retrievers past Gardner Webb, NJIT, and VMI this past weekend, earning Coach Chad Cradock his 200th career win.

Sporlein dominated the freestyle disciplines, winning all three (50, 100, and 200) at the CCSA North Invite this past weekend. Gregor  won the100 freestyle (46.30), the 50 freestyle (21.33) and the 200 freestyle (1:41.18). He has led the UMBC men's team in each meet so far during the 2014-15 season and has won the freestyle events at both of the Retrievers' home meets this season.

Green won the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions this weekend at the invite. Ryan earned a win in the 1 meter with a score of 293.55. He then turned in a score of 304.35 on the 3 meter boards to lead the Retrievers. With his dives this weekend, Green has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the spring. 

UMBC is back in action on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to George Washington. The meet with the Colonials is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
