Hussein and Green Earn Weekly Awards Again as UMBC Sweeps CCSA Honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UMBC senior Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) and junior Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) have swept the weekly Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) awards, the conference announced on Wednesday morning. Hussein garnered his third Swimmer of the Week honor while Green received his third Diver of the Week accolade.
Hussein capped his UMBC home career in style last Saturday, breaking his own pool record in the 200 IM while also propelling both of the Retriever relays to new pool marks as well. The senior started his day by leading off for the 200 medley relay which touched in at 1:32.44. Then, in the final individual event of the day, Hussein snapped the UMBC Aquatic Complex record for the 200 IM for the second straight year by completing the race in a time of 1:51.07. He finished off the competition by swimming the anchor leg in the 200 relay with the UMBC quartet combining for a new pool record time of 1:23.70.
Green earned his second consecutive top diver award after sweeping the diving events on Saturday as UMBC defeated Howard. Having already qualified for the NCAA Zones thanks to his career-best one-meter performance over UMBC's training trip, Green set another personal-high last weekend, scoring 317.25 on the three-meter board en route to a victory. The win completed a sweep on the day as he had earlier claimed the one-meter competition with a score of 286.27.
The Retriever swimming and diving programs have now combined for 13 total weekly honors between the men in the CCSA and the women in the America East. On Tuesday, sophomores Catherine Frediani (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) swept the America East accolades.
The UMBC swimming and diving teams have this weekend off from competition before traveling to East Carolina for a 1:00 p.m. meet in Greenville, N.C. to conclude the dual meet season.
