Green Tops 300 Pts., Earns CCSA Diver of the Week Award

CCSA Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UMBC junior Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) broke the 300-point plateau on the 3-meter board for this first time in his career this past weekend at the Patriot Invitational and has now been named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Diver of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.

An NCAA Zones meet competitor last season after topping 300-pts. on the 1-meter board, Green set a career-high this past weekend at George Mason while winning the 3-meter competition.  The junior advanced to the finals of the event by placing second in the prelims with a score of 276.40.  Then in the finals, Green scored 301.15, the second-highest score on the team this season, to capture the event title.

In addition, Green placed sixth in the 1-meter event by scoring a season-high 245.85 points in the event finals which teammate Tim Perkins (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) won.

Green gives the UMBC swimming and diving program a sweep of the weekly conference diving awards as sophomore Corinna Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) was named the America East's top diver on Tuesday.  The Retrievers have now captured nine total weekly awards this season with the men taking seven CCSA weekly accolades in their first year in the conference.

The UMBC swimming and diving team has the remainder of the 2013 calendar year off from competition before hosting Howard on Jan. 11 to open 2014.
