CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UMBC seniors Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt/Victory College) and Tim Perkins (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) have swept the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) weekly awards, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning. Hussein gains his second Swimmer of the Week honor in the past three weeks while Perkins garners the Diver of the Week accolade for the second consecutive week.
This past weekend, Hussein led the Retrievers to a victory over George Washington, 145-109, by winning three individual events for the second time this season. After leading off for the victorious 200 medley relay team, the versatile senior won the 100-yd. backstroke, and followed it by claiming his first victory of the season in the 100 fly (51.48). Hussein then capped his meet by taking the top spot in the 200 IM for the third time in three meets this season.
A week after winning his first career dual meet competition, Perkins put up career-best results in the meet against the Colonials. Perkins began his day by posting a season-best score of 281.02 while winning the 1-meter competition and then followed it with a career-best 323.62 to win the 3-meter event and qualify for the NCAA Zones meet for the first time in his career.
Hussein and Perkins have given the Retrievers all four of their weekly conference award in their first year as a member of the CCSA.
UMBC continues its dual meet season this Saturday with a trip to Norfolk, Va. to take on Old Dominion at 1:00 p.m.
